Today's Match Format

These are the standard rules in play for today's matches. Always confirm with your scorer or club admin before the toss.

  1. 1

    Teams

Each team fields 10 players (or 8 in the short format). Players bat in pairs — 5 pairs of 2 (or 4 pairs of 2 in the 8-player format).

  2. 2

    Innings

Each team bats one innings. The batting team starts on 200 runs and the score goes up and down depending on what happens each ball.

  3. 3

    Overs per pair

In the 10-player format each pair faces 4 overs (24 balls). In the 8-player format each pair faces 5 overs (30 balls).

  4. 4

    Scoring runs

Runs are scored as normal — 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6. Every run adds to your team total.

  5. 5

    Wides

A wide costs the batting team 2 runs (deducted from the total). The ball is not re-bowled — it counts as one of the pair's balls.

  6. 6

    Wickets

A wicket (bowled, stumped, caught, or run out) costs the batting team 5 runs (deducted from the total). The batter is not out — they stay in and continue batting.

  7. 7

Swapping ends after a run out

If the batters were mid-run when the stumps were broken, the player who was run out must walk to the non-striking end (the end furthest from where the wicket was broken). The partner who survived stays at the striking end to face the next delivery.

  8. 8

    Winning

The team with the higher score at the end of both innings wins. If scores are level the match is a tie.
